Tonelería Murúa, a key player in the “Strengthening the Wine Value Chain” conference.

Led by our manager Elena Ceca, Tonelería Murúa played a prominent role in the “Strengthening the Wine Value Chain” conference. This event was organized by the Association of the Wine Industry of La Rioja, which Elena has presided over since its inception in 2021. The gathering took place at Restaurante Delicatto on June 2.

Aware of our social responsibility, Tonelería Murúa is fully committed to the sustainable development of La Rioja. Our new cooperage in Navarrete stands as a testament to our strong environmental and sustainability commitment. Thanks to insulated walls and ceilings, along with the installation of 282 solar panels, we have successfully reduced our grid energy consumption by 20%-30%.

We have also achieved zero diesel consumption by utilizing all our waste, primarily wood shavings, as fuel for our biomass boiler. This allows us to generate all the heat needed for both industrial processes and heating, using renewable energy. Additionally, we have installed technology to monitor and analyze energy efficiency, identifying opportunities for further savings.

Furthermore, we have implemented a circular barrel system. Instead of discarding barrels that have lost their properties and aromas and are no longer suitable for wine, we recycle them, giving them a second life for aging whisky, rum, tequila, and other spirits.

All these initiatives reflect our commitment to La Rioja and environmental responsibility, contributing to the circular economy—a sustainable production and consumption model that promotes sharing, renewing, and recycling materials and products, creating added value. This benefits everyone: we preserve our environment, reduce production costs, and meet the needs of eco-conscious consumers.

THE WINE AUXILIARY INDUSTRY

The wine auxiliary industry plays a key role in the production process. Our collaboration with wineries is essential to maintaining a dynamic and evolving viticultural tradition. This is evident in the 29 companies that make up the Association of the Wine Auxiliary Industry of La Rioja, collectively employing nearly 1,200 workers and generating a turnover of €215 million.

Like all association members, our goal is excellence. To achieve this, we continuously study the market and its evolving needs. That’s why we invest heavily in research and innovation across all wine-related fields, including cooperage, capsules, labels, tanks, software, digitalization, water management, and environmental services.
