Tonelería Murúa, a model to follow at the Venice Biennale.

The design of Tonelería Murúa’s new facility in Navarrete was showcased at the 2023 Venice Biennale as a model of efficient and eco-friendly industrial design. It is a great honor for us to serve as an inspiration for other production facilities at this prestigious event, which is essential for those passionate about sustainable architecture and a future-oriented approach.

The Venice Biennale is one of the most important and prestigious events in the world of architecture. This international exhibition brings together the world’s top architects, designers, and artists in a unique gathering featuring cutting-edge exhibitions and conferences that discuss the future of contemporary architecture.

Under the theme “The Laboratory of the Future,” the 18th edition of the Biennale focused on pressing global issues such as climate change and large-scale migrations.

Tonelería Murúa had the privilege of being part of the Spanish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, featuring designs by Patricia Ajá, architect at LKS KREAN Ingeniería y Arquitectura. This work was integrated into the FOODSCAPES project, an audiovisual and photographic exhibition that explores Spain’s agro-architectural landscape, analyzing current food systems and the infrastructures that support them.

The architectural design of our new headquarters was conceived to blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings. From its initial concept to its daily operations, measures have been taken to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability in every aspect.

A key part of this commitment is the installation of 282 solar panels, which generate clean electricity, significantly reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy sources. This initiative not only lowers Tonelería Murúa’s carbon footprint but also encourages the use of clean energy in the region and ensures that all wood used comes exclusively from sustainable sources.

Tonelería Murúa has been an inspiring example at the Venice Biennale, showcasing how a company can be sustainable and committed to ecology and the environment. Through thoughtful architectural design, the use of renewable energy, and an efficient logistical organization, Tonelería Murúa demonstrates its leadership in environmental protection and its commitment to a greener future.
