The manager of Tonelería Murúa has been awarded the Executive Prize for her leadership in management.

Tonelería Murúa is in luck. Our manager, Elena Ceca, has won one of the awards at the latest edition of the Mercurio 2021 Awards; specifically, the so-called «Executive Award», which recognises leadership, management and commitment in the management of her company.

Presented by the Marketing Club of La Rioja for 40 years, the Mercurio Awards are one of the most coveted awards in the business sector, as they highlight the good practices, track record and executive work of companies in La Rioja. In this edition, 52 candidatures have been presented.

The jury singled out Elena Ceca, manager of Tonelería Murúa since 2009, for her efforts to «continue the founder’s dream and make this cooperage a model. Expanding the business even further without losing any of the historical philosophy of the founders, focusing on quality and always offering the best personalised service to its customers».

Other companies and individuals awarded this year were: Bosonit (Advanced Company Award), Rafael González Business Group (Marketing Award), Horno Arguiñano (Innovation Award), CVNE (Social Responsibility Award) and José María Pancorbo (Business Life Award).

The jury that designates these awards is made up of the Club’s Board of Directors, its Board of Trustees and the winners of the previous edition, who award them, paying special attention to the prestige and authority of the best people, companies and entities, as well as their national and international projection and the dissemination of our autonomous community. It should be noted that each member of the jury votes completely anonymously.

The awards will be presented on 14 October in the Auditorium of the Logroño Town Hall in the presence of the authorities and member companies of the Marketing Club.

About Elena Ceca

Elena Ceca, the current manager of Tonelería Murúa, started working in the family cooperage in 1996, after studying Biological Sciences and a Master’s degree at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid on polluting processes and environmental protection. He also holds a Master’s degree in Viticulture, Oenology and Wine Marketing.

In 2009 he took over as manager and, since then, the industrial company has not stopped growing.  Pioneers in creating the most modern facility in Spain and one of the first mechanised ones on the European continent, one of Elena’s latest milestones was the inauguration of the new factory in Navarrete a year ago, making it one of the most modern in Europe.

Elena has managed to modernise the cooperage industry by remaining faithful to tradition, but with an innovative vision, creating a sustainable and productive project that always seeks quality and continuous improvement in the processes and manufacture of the final product. She continues to be committed to research, oenological training and new generations, as well as the social development of all the agents involved and a constant commitment to the environment.

She is also currently president of the Association of the Rioja Wine Auxiliary Industry, whose aim is to reinforce the quality of Rioja wine and create synergies between the companies that support it and help to spread its image around the world.
