Last Friday, 3rd June, we welcomed a group of members of the Ribera del Duero Winemakers Association (EnoDuero), of which we are collaborators, to our facilities in Navarrete. Oenologists from different wineries in the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin were interested in learning first-hand about the barrel-making process at Tonelería Murúa.

They took a complete tour. We welcomed them in the open air, in the park where the wood is dried naturally. At the entrance, Elena Ceca, our president, told them about the family history of the cooperage and the values that have remained intact since its foundation in 1898.

After the company’s presentation, the group of professionals were able to learn first-hand about our artisanal barrel-making process. They observed first-hand how the barrels are made by the master coopers, always supported by the latest technologies.

There they were able to see the different processes that the barrels that will house the wines of the future go through, while we gave them a technical explanation of each of the steps, emphasising the innovations that we have in this new cooperage.

A few years ago, EnoDuero partners had already visited our company, but what they did not know were our new facilities: more innovative, more modern and more sustainable. They all commented on the great qualitative leap that the changes in the manufacturing process of the barrels of the future will mean and they valued it very positively.

At the end of the visit, they were able to enjoy a tasting given by the oenologist of Bodegas Ramón Bilbao, Rosana Lisa. They were able to notice the difference in the wines according to the type of wood used and the time of use. An organoleptic challenge that was both entertaining and didactic and enjoyed by all.

After lunch, where they were able to share impressions of the visit and discuss their daily work as winemakers, they enjoyed a didactic tasting at the Bodegas Corral facilities.

The Ribera del Duero Winemakers Association is one of the largest in Spain. It seeks to promote and strengthen the role of the oenologist both regionally and nationally, and its scope of action covers one of the most renowned wine regions in the country, whose appellation has more than 300 wineries.
